Spiegel van de Zuiderzee. Geschiedenis en cartobibliografie van de Zuiderzee en het Hollands Waddengebied

By E. Walsmit, N. Persson, J. Kloosterboer & M. Ostermann.

This book gives an overview of the history of the Zuiderzee through the ages, until the completion of the Afsluitdijk. The introduction, written by four specialists in the field, describes thoroughly the streamlets and changes of the tidal outlets in the Waddenzee, the poldering and land reclamation, the trade and the navigation with buoyage and beaconage and the changes of the place-names. The introduction is followed by a cartobibliography of all the circa 140 printed maps of the Zuiderzee, with many states and variants.

The book is written in Dutch and contains an English summary.

The series Utrecht Studies in the History of Cartography, in which Spiegel van de Zuiderzee appears as volume 9, has been prepared under the direction of the Research Program URU-Explokart of the University of Utrecht and is aimed at both researchers and laymen with an interest in these matters.
